Microsoft Copilot: Enterprise vs. Public AI

When using AI tools at Northwest University, it’s important to understand the difference between enterprise (work) and consumer (public) AI toolsets, even when both are branded as Microsoft Copilot. For data security, privacy, and compliance, NU’s preferred and approved option is Copilot Chat (enterprise/work version).

How to Access Enterprise (Work) Copilot for NU Data:

• Microsoft Edge (Copilot Chat):
  • Click the Copilot icon (upper-right), press Ctrl + Shift + . (period), or use the Copilot key on NU-issued Dell devices
  • Or type @Copilot in the address bar and press Tab
• Other Web Browsers: visit hppts://m365.cloud.microsoft/
• Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook: click the Copilot icon on the Home ribbon
• Teams: copy chat text, notes, or agendas into Copilot Chat (click the Apps icon on the left sidebar to add)

Ensure you’re using the enterprise version of Copilot Chat – look for the green checkmark shield icon, indicating Enterprise Data Protection (EDP) is applied:
