Schedule Sending Emails in Outlook

The Schedule Send (or Delay Delivery) feature allows you to choose when an email is delivered. This is helpful when working outside business hours or when timing matters.

Outlook for Windows (Classic Desktop App)

Important: Outlook must remain open and online for the message to send at the scheduled time.

  1. While composing a message, select Options in the Ribbon.
  2. Click Delay Delivery.
  3. Under Delivery options, check Do not deliver before, and then choose your preferred date and time.
  4. Select Close, then select Send.

The message will remain in your Outbox until the scheduled time.

To send immediately:

  • Open the message in the Outbox folder, uncheck Do not deliver before, close the dialog box, and click Send.

New Outlook or Outlook for the Web

  1. While composing a message, select the dropdown arrow next to Send.
  2. Choose Schedule send.
  3. Select a suggested time or choose a custom date and time.
  4. Click Send.

The message will remain in your Drafts folder until the scheduled time.

To send immediately:

  • Open the scheduled message in the Drafts folder, select the Edit (pencil) icon, then choose Send Now.

Outlook for Mac

  1. Compose your email message and add at least one recipient in the To: field.
  2. Click the dropdown arrow next to Send.
  3. Select Schedule send.
  4. Choose the desired date and time, then click OK.

The message will stay in your Drafts folder until it is sent. Outlook does not need to remain open.

To cancel or change the time:

  • Open the message in the Drafts folder, select Cancel Send, and confirm, and then either send immediately or reschedule.
